Mission: The mission of Beauty, Books & Brunch is to connect & celebrate women and their contributions to the global discussion around economic empowerment, access to health, and racial justice.

Background and Introduction:
Beauty, Books & Brunch (BBB) is a collective of women who have created a safe and inclusive space to have a global exchange of ideas, share their stories, their research & innovations, take steps towards maintaining positive changes, and form a sisterhood. BBB doesn’t just offer a seat at the table, it offers a platform for women to voice their concerns, speak to their experiences, advocate for policy changes, and cultural/narrative shifts.  The women of BBB have a stake in what happens to their bodies, finances, cultures & communities, have voting power, and have a right to challenge unconscious biases and the status quo.

This brunch experience encourages everyday women, mothers, daughters, sisters, entrepreneurs, innovators/artists, game changers, activists, allies, organizers, and community leaders to come together, collectively and collaboratively create dialogues about the intersectionality of oppression (gender, race, and class) and exclusion. Through engaging discussions and performances, our brunch experience invites a global perspective, and provides an inclusive and diverse environment for women from all walks of life to have a seat at the table alongside influential and inspiring leaders, who are paving the way towards dismantling structural racism and knocking down the walls of patriarchy.

Founded in 2016 by advocate, filmmaker, and writer, Jalissa Monique Brown, with the inaugural theme, Beauty Meets Intelligence, which highlighted women who turned their passions into paychecks, and included the celebration of women writers. Jalissa along with women from her home state of North Carolina came together to address the benefits and challenges of starting a business and how to tap into one’s own talents and passions for profit, all while aligning with one's purpose. BBB provided participants with an opportunity to also sell their products, launch their books & brands, offer services, and share information.

BBB has grown organically. Each attendee and supporter becomes a part of this culture-shifting community and nourishing network of women who want to see real change in our communities and the world. BBB is a sisterhood and community for women to come together in a safe space to learn and contribute to the discourse of social justice, sustainable communities, and acts as an information hub where there is an exchange of ideas on books, recent research & developments, technology & innovations, politics, finances, health, and wellness.

Jalissa believes that there is power in women coming together to form a fellowship over food, which is why the brunch experience is integral in her approach to building relationships. Something magical happens when sisters meet to reflect on their everyday struggles, regardless of qualifications and capacity; while breaking bread.  Think of BBB as a plate that offers trust, openness, and healing that many of us may find difficult in our daily life and on our own.
